Presenter:
Dr. Amanda Bertana
Dr. Amanda Bertana, University of Maine, is a member of the Scholars Strategic Network and an Environmental Sociologist who studies how peoples’ perception of climate change contributes to climate action and inaction.

Climate change is the greatest challenge of the current era. It is often portrayed as a challenge with no solution. Newspapers, magazines, and reports claim that we are on the brink of cataclysmic disaster. These apocalyptic depictions create feelings of angst and can leave people hopeless and dis-empowered. In this presentation, we will discuss some of the emotional responses to climate change and pose ways in which we can alter the public discourse in a way where people are more empowered to take action.
