About the event

On July 27 at 7pm, Mimi Sheller will give a talk entitled "Sacred Connections From Downeast Maine to the Caribbean". She will share some of her childhood memories of Maine and how they connect to her study of Native American and Caribbean culture. Mimi will discuss how Haitian voodoo arose out of African and indigenous Taino traditions, but also how these link to Wabanaki traditions in Maine. She'll discuss feminine spirits related to water and resistance to colonialism through relations of care and mothering, seed savings, and native food culture. Mimi is the Dean of The Global School at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

This event is sponsored by Reversing Falls Sanctuary. It is free and open to everyone but donations are always most welcome.
