Deer Isle Students Exhibit Paintings of their Climate Concerns at the RFS

June 18/19th and 25/26th from 1-4 PM at the Reversing Falls Sanctuary

Climate Action Net supports this youth initiative.

There will be an art exhibit at the Reversing Falls Sanctuary on the weekends of June 18/19th and 25/26th from 1 - 4:00 PM. Twenty-three paintings created by 8th grade Deer Isle Stonington Students and two sculptures will be on display at that time. The theme of the artwork is awakening to a world of climate instability. In preparation for their paintings, students have researched climate information, chosen a particular aspect of the issue and written a personal response (which will be posted). Whether the final climate topic is loss of biodiversity, CO2 reduction, reducing pollution, extinction, etc., the paintings reflect the students' hope, anger and humor as they plead for us to wake up and take action for our Earth. The artwork is created with great care under the tutelage of Cynthia Pease, DIS Art Teacher. Ms. Pease and several student/artists will discuss the project at the opening at 1:30 PM on June 18th. Note cards of the paintings will be available for sale. The frames for the paintings have been fabricated from plastic water bottles with the assistance of the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts' FabLab. These paintings can be viewed at www.climateactionnet.orgwhich is a sponsor of this project. Masks and distancing are required at the Sanctuary which is located at 818 Bagaduce Rd. in Brooksville.
